  • Attendees becoming contacts, no use of the "#" symbol, and list field limit?

    We have three separate questions for you:
    • We have finally been able to correct our issue around connecting the Payee contact to an opportunity (seems SKUs are required, after all). However, we would also like to be able to have Attendees and their contact info (address, email) have a Contact record created in Salesforce. Does C&P Events offer this capability? We do not need the Attendees to be attached to an opportunity, but we would like them to go into the SF Campaign as the Payee contacts also do.
    • Our users are experiencing an error message when they enter a "#" in the address field. Since folks will try to enter apartment numbers in this field, this seems like a bug that could be fixed? Our temporary fix was to add a warning text around use of the #, but please let me know if we are missing something here.
    • We've been using the custom field tool to add field values to a question, using "Select list" as the Question Type. I now seem to have hit a limit of field values, receiving the message:

      Update failed. First exception on row 0 with id a0d80000004hqKFAAY; first error: STRING_TOO_LONG, Field Values: data value too large: *I don't have one; <br>Carey Christie; <br>Chelsey Roney; <br>Dow Constantine; <br>Emily Knudsen; <br>Eric Ward; <br>Jennifer Mortensen; <br>Judy Cashman; <br>Kathleen Dowd-Gailey; <br>Kira Cha; <br>Lisa Corbin; <br>Nancy Whitlock; <br>Randy Engstrom; <br>Rob LaRubbio; <br>Sheila Brown; <br>Todd Erskine; (max length=255): [CnP_PaaS_EVT__Field_values__c]
      Error is in expression '{!save}' in component <apexage> in page cnp_paas_evt:createcustomfields

      An unexpected error has occurred. Your solution provider has been notified. (CnP_PaaS_EVT)

      My question is, is there a way around this limit? Or, is there a different tool I could use to accomplish the same goal of attendees selecting from a pre-determined list of names? I'm looked through help, forums, and general internet search and cannot find a solution. We have a list of Table Captain names that we would like people to select from, and the curent limit seems arbitrary -- any hope of an increase in the 2.0 release?

    Good day Lindsay,

    I will try to have 3 separate answers for you.

    YOU ASKED: We have finally been able to correct our issue around connecting the Payee contact to an opportunity (seems SKUs are required, after all). However, we would also like to be able to have Attendees and their contact info (address, email) have a Contact record created in Salesforce. Does C&P Events offer this capability? We do not need the Attendees to be attached to an opportunity, but we would like them to go into the SF Campaign as the Payee contacts also do.

    REPLY: Attendees as well as Payees create Contact records following the Contact creation matching rule as set in the C&P Settings. Each registration level will become an opportunity since they are items that are being paid for. Attendees will become members of the campaign associated with the Event LEVEL.

    YOU ASKED: Our users are experiencing an error message when they enter a "#" in the address field. Since folks will try to enter apartment numbers in this field, this seems like a bug that could be fixed? Our temporary fix was to add a warning text around use of the #, but please let me know if we are missing something here.

    REPLY: There are a number of characters that are blocked for 2 reasons- script injection as well as issues with the XML being posted back and how it gets processed in Salesforce.

    YOU ASKED:
    We've been using the custom field tool to add field values to a question, using "Select list" as the Question Type. I now seem to have hit a limit of field values, receiving the message:

    REPLY: I need to research this further and get back to you. Please give me a day to discuss this with the right team and find out what is going on.

      Thank you for your quick response. I have some further clarififying questions:

      #1 (Attendee Contact creation): We have the contact creation matching rules set up in the C&P settings. It is working well for Registrants/Payees, but not at all for Attendees. Any suggestions on troubleshooting this?

      #2 (symbols not accepted): Is there a list somewhere of the blocked symbols, so that we can share those with our users? The auto-error message that they currently receive says "please enter a valid data" which isn't enough information for the user to make the correction.

      #3 Thank you for looking further into the field limit.

        #1: Are you looking at the right field for the Attendee Temporary Contact? There is a different tab for Attendees temporary location and it is not the same as Registrants. Remember that the registrant is the one making the payment, therefore it is handled by the payment engine. Attendees are handled by the event engine.

        Look at this: http://manual.clickandpledge.com/Sal...fications.html

        #2: I will send you a list by tomorrow.

          Lindsay,

          The limit for the question / answer is 255 characters & the issue is you are exceeding the limit on the field.

          As for the address we allow the # sign. We have tested this and it works fine. The following are allowable characters for each field:

          reg_billingcity=/^([a-zA-Z0-9\.\,\&\-\'\ ])+$/;
          reg_billingprovince=/^([a-zA-Z0-9\.\,\&\-\'\ ])+$/;
          reg_billingpostalcode=/^([a-zA-Z0-9\.\-\ ]{2,20})+$/;
          reg_billingphone=/^([0-9\.\-\(\)\+\ ])+$/;
          reg_billingaddress1=/^([a-zA-Z0-9\.\,\#\&\-\'\ ])+$/;

          so they must be entering another character not in this list.

          My test included #12334 in the address and the transaction went through successfully.

          Have you tested it yourself?

            In regards to the limit, I am aware that it is 255 characters, but was hoping that there would be either a planned near future increase in the limit -- OR -- another way to have a custom list that accomodates our need. Is there another way to create a custom picklist that does not have a 255 character limit?

            As for the symbol, we have not tested it ourselves, but have had two separate users have this error message appear. They made no change except to take out the # symbol, and it then they were able , so we can only deduce this symbol was causing the issue. This is happening is the ATTENDEE (ticket level) and not the payee/registrant level -- I just wanted to clarify that, as the list of allowable characters you provided says "billingaddress1" etc, which makes me wonder if those characters pertain to the registrant/payee page.

            For the attendees not becoming contacts, we did change the layout and added the button as recommended in the link you provided. However, the problem is not that the attendees are showing up in the view, but that a contact is not being created for them at any point in Salesforce (outside of the Events module, as it does do successfully for Payees). I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like (with the Attendee showing up, but a blank in the column for Contact). When we go to the both Manage Temporary Contacts, we only see payees -- attendees are just not there. Same thing for when we go to the top tab for C&P Temporary Contacts, we only see payees. When we go into the Attendee detail, we see what I've attached as another screen shot (CPEvents ScreenShot AttendeeDetail.jpg). As you can see, still no contact attached.

            We've had a few other errors come up in the last day that I'm hoping you can help with:
            • Scenario #1: the user enters one attendee successfully, then adds the same item again and fills out the same form. However, the second time around, this error comes up: j_id0:j_id2:j_id3:j_id24:j_id76:j_id78:0:j_id80:j_ id89: Validation Error: Value is not valid
              Can you tell me what this error means? We would like people to buy more than one ticket at a time.
            • Scenario #2: the user gives up on purchasing a second ticket and proceeds to the payment page. They enter in all of their info and receive another error: Credit Card number must be a valid number. We have checked the number at least 4 times, and even tried on a different computer, and receive the same message. It is definitely the correct number. This is the only user this has happened to -- but we also think this is the only user that has attempted using an AmEx card. Is there any kind of troubleshooting that we can do here?

            Thank you,
            Lindsay

              Lindsay,

              There are a number of questions in this post and I will answer them one by one below:

              - 255 limit: Additional field length will be supported in the next release. This release it is limited to 255.
              - Character limits: For attendees - I have asked testers to test Attendees and will post the answer here shortly.
              - Missing attendees: Have you followed the post installation: http://manual.clickandpledge.com/Sal...fications.html
              Attendees that are not found in the system will post to the Temporary Attendee list waiting for approval. Payees are handled through the payment system but the attendees are handled through the event module. The temporary attendee list is different from the temporary Contact list which relates to the Payee.
              - AMEX Card: Is your organization set up to use AMEX? AMEX is setup by request and request an agreement with AMEX. While the option allows for checking AMEX in the Event it does not mean that your account is setup for AMEX.

                Lindsay,

                I just checked your account and you are setup to accept AMEX. Have you enabled AMEX in the event?

                If you want I can have a developer review your account. Let me know and we can check it but we need to set up a user that you give admin rights to.

                Let me know if you wish for us to review your Salesforce isntance.

                  Lindsay,

                  One of our testers created a quick event: https://testing-at-large-recordset.f...1_Opening_Page

                  The Free Event level has all the address fields. We have registered using special characters, including # symbol and it works fine.

                  What fields are you mapping?

                  Would you please test this event and let me know if you can duplicate the error?

                    Thanks again for your quick responses.

                    - 255 limit: Excellent news on the increase of the limit. That will be the 2.0 release, correct?
                    - Character limits: Thanks for testing -- is this related to the error message "j_id0:j_id2:j_id3:j_id24:j_id76:j_id78:0:j_id80:j _ id89: Validation Error: Value is not valid"? See attached .jpg for the fields we are mapping in the Attendee level.
                    - Missing attendees: We have gone through the post install instructions 2 times now, but I am curious about the "Temporary Attendee" list that you mention. Are you referring to the "Manage Temporary Contact" button within the "C&P Event Registered Attendees" list (or the C&P Temporary contact tab)? If so, yes, we have checked this area, and it ONLY shows Payees and not Attendees. If not, please provide the location of the list.
                    - AmEx: Yes, we have Amex payment enabled BOTH in the specific event, and in the C&P Settings events tab.

                    We would LOVE to have a developer look at our account, and willingly provide admin rights. Let me know what you need to do this. You can reach myself our Ryan Applegate at 206-923-0853.

                      Any chance we can have an ETA on getting in touch with a C&P developer? This event is live and we are eager to get it working so folks can purchase tickets.

                        Lindsay,

                        We have done a lot of research on that error and have figured out when it happens.

                        In the custom question answers you have put in. It seems like you have used semicolon followed by a carriage return. The correct way to set options is:

                        test1;test2;test3;test4

                        NOT

                        test1;
                        test2;
                        test3;

                        Have you put a carriage return after each option? The instructions state that only put a semi-colon.

                        We are working on a release that will remove the carriage return in case someone adds it. Please remove that & it will work.
                        Regards,

                          Temporary Attendees are in a totally different location than the temporary Contacts / Registrants.

                          The Attendee Details behaves differently.

                          Are you seeing the related list and the buttons? They are described in the post installation: http://manual.clickandpledge.com/Sal...fications.html

                            Hi there,

                            Thank you for researching this. Originally (three months ago when we first set up this event), we had set up the list with carraige returns. However, when we started to add names and ran out of room, we re-populated the list with NO carraige returns, and that bought us a few more characters. The list as seen by the USER is separated by lines, as it should, but on our back end, there are no carraige returns, so I'm confused as to how the support team determined we had entered it WITH carraige returns? Here it what we have entered into the "Answers/options" field with the Custom Options Details:

                            *I do not have one;Angie Connell;Becca Fong;Carey Christie;Casey Dougherty;Chelsey Roney;David Parrish;Derek Ormerod;Dow Constantine;Emily K.;Eric W.;Jennifer M.;Judy C.;Kathleen D.;Kira C.;Nancy W.;Randy E.;Rob L.;Sheila B.;Todd E.;WS Rotary

                            This was copied and pasted with no changes, and as you can see, there are no carraige returns. I don't see a workaround past increasing the character limit of 255.

                              Lindsay,

                              the issue I am addressing is what is causing the following:

                              Scenario #1: the user enters one attendee successfully, then adds the same item again and fills out the same form. However, the second time around, this error comes up: j_id0:j_id2:j_id3:j_id24:j_id76:j_id78:0:j_id80:j_ id89: Validation Error: Value is not valid

                              the id0:;...

                              that is caused because of options having carriage return and Salesforce cannot do form validation.

                              The other issue is naturally limited by the field type in Salesforce which will be changed in the next release as additional field type.
                              Regards,
