Regarding your error, it sounds like you have a brand new installation of Click & Pledge Events. You do need to go in the Event Management > Default Settings and select your Salesforce site. The above article does go through the initial post-installation, but it does involve setting up a Salesforce Site, which is rather involved, so you may want to take advantage of the complimentary installation.

Cannot set up new event
When I try to create a new event, I get this error: "There is a problem with the Salesforce Site settings. Please update the 'Default Settings' before starting a new event."
I see from other posts that there are missing post-installation steps, but I can't find any information on what those are. Our website is wildliferecreation.org.
