  • different display for registration

We started membership registration on July first, only for membership, for our senior college. So far we have over 100 registrations for the named event of "registration" so we know it's working well, especially after Amanda caught the problem I had created. But today something has come up that puzzles me. When I go to the registration, in the iframe on the MSC website, [midcoastseniorcollege.org/membership-form] and click on Add, I am presented with a popup that you fill out and click on Continue down on the bottom right, and add someone else, then continue and pay etc, no problem.

But ONE user doesn't see what I see. He is a long time computer person who may or may not have weird stuff in his computer. But using the latest version of Chrome, and HIS popup says Add Attendee on bottom right, and Previous in a button on bottom left, but it doesn't continue when he presses the Add Attendee; he's stuck. I had him check and javascript's allowed, cleared his cache, I made him share his screen with Zoom and took a screenshot of mine (l) and his (r). It wouldn't matter if it functioned correctly, but it doesn't, it hangs. We haven't had anyone else with the problem, yet. But in a month or so we'll have the locusts descend again and will need to fix things quickly. Any ideas??

    Good day @briegull

Would you please ask that user to try in the "Incognito window"? Maybe any of the extensions causing an issue?

      quote from Harry:

My iPhone gave me the correct form in Safari, but the iMac still gives me the wrong one. I even did the ultimate sacrifice and shut the iMac down entirely, gave it the requisite 15 seconds, and started up again (a nearly five minute operation in my case). I still get the wrong form there, with the same results. I then went back into the incognito window and tried, with the same results again.

SO IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING IN HIS IMAC. HE IS USING EL CAPITAN. HE IS A SECURITY FREAK SO LORD KNOWS WHAT KIND OF STUFF HE HAS IN THERE (WHY DID A MAC TAKE FIVE MINUTES TO LOAD??). BUT I STILL CAN'T FIGURE HOW HE COULD GET THAT WRONG. IT HAPPENS WITH THE TWO web PAGES in which WE HAVE THE IFRAME (IDENTICAL).

Was the view of the popup he sees an earlier one? Version 1.0, with a different title, and then the later one a version 1.0.1 and that somehow his mac parses only (for instance) two digits? I know I'm not explaining this cogently but I don't know the lingo. He did say that "javascript" popped up on the bottom of his Chrome screen.

Don't spend much time on this. It looks like he's the anomaly and registrations are going in just fine. Or rather, I have problems which I may come back with, but not this one.

Further update: his imac is from 2009. Can't run 64 bit, I would gather. UPDATE - HE SAYS IT IS 64 BIT.

It's possible that a machine that old cannot support the latest versions of a browser- Safari or Chrome. What version of Chrome is available on his iMac?

He will need to authorize javascript to run in order for 'Add Attendee' to work.

That's what I thought, but he is running the latest version of Chrome...Version 83.0.4103.116 (Official Build) (64-bit), I thought maybe he couldn't do 64 bit because if he got it in 2009, that's right around the time that some models still existed with 32 bit. But no, he runs 64 bit just fine. I don't know what version of Safari he's using. It seems obvious that something is happening on his own computer, possibly some virus catcher. I did make sure he had javascript authorized.

In any event it turns out it works just fine on his wife's 2014 machine (NOW he tells me!) and we haven't heard from anyone else so I say fuggedaboutit. I do hate that. I live in a retirement community and support many snowbirds. They come back north to Maine and their machine doesn't work after six months of inactivity, but it turns out that it's their old machine, they took the new one with them to FL. Aargh!!
