Problem adding a contact picklist field to Event Registration Form

Hello,

This is a question for the Friends of the Pelham Library account - org id: 00Df40000003eHw and C&P Account ID: 38921 and I have given you one week of access.

Here's my problem: I am trying to setup a C&P Event: Novel Night 2018 - Dinner and Party RSVP. I would like to add a new Contact field from Salesforce to my event registration form. This field is a picklist field - it's called 'Novel Night First Choice'. I created the field in Salesforce, and then was able to add it to the form, but it won't display the list of options on the form. It just shows the question but then has a blank space where the person would select the choice from the drop down list. Can you help me understand why the drop down list isn't displaying?

FYI - I had originally thought I would just create this as a custom field in the event (you can see these attempts at the bottom of the form) but for a variety of reasons (the length of the picklist - it will eventually be about 50 items long - plus needing to quickly change sort order of elements in the list, reporting needs) I would prefer to create this as a custom field for the Contact. And yes- this field is only supposed to be at the registrant, not the attendee level. I'm attaching a screen shot with notes on it to explain the problem.

It's all about the permissions. You have created the field but didn't set the permissions for site guest user to view it. However, we have set the permissions and now it displays the list of options.

Sorry - and a follow-up question: I just did a test submission and the answer I selected doesn't seem to be showing up in the field for the contact record (I just did a registration and the answer shows up in the registration data but then when I go to the actual contact record (Louise Kelly) the field is unpopulated. Thanks in advance for your further assistance with this.

Please follow the below steps to set the permission for the field:

Go to "Sites -> Click on Site Label -> Public Access Settings -> scroll down to the Field-Level Security and view the Contact -> here give Read Access to the field and save it.

Regarding the contact field, we did one test transaction in your instance and the field populated:

Hello - thank you so much for explaining the permissions- that was really helpful. I was able to set up 5 new fields and then was able to successfully submit the form with those fields filled out, but for me the answers are still not showing up on the contact record. I just submitted another registration, again tied to my record (Louise Kelly) in the database, and submitted answers to these 5 new fields (Novel Night 2018 First Choice, Second Choice, etc). The answers show up in the registration data, but when I go to my contact record, the fields appear unpopulated. I'm attaching a screen shot of what I see. Can you help me understand why the data isn't displaying on the contact record, especially since it did show up when you did your test? Does it not work if the contact already exists in the database? Is there some sort of delay in the data appearing in these fields? Thanks for your continued help.

Yes, you are correct. In case of existing contact, it will NOT update the contact. In case of new contact creation, it will show up the fields.

OK - so my next question is - what options do I have to MAKE it populate the contact record, even for existing contacts? Is there some sort of mapping I can do? Or workflow? Can I add the fields to the C&P Alias object so that I can go into C&P Alias and copy the data from the alias to the contact?

There are certainly automations you could create that are native to Salesforce - you might have to experiment to see if it can be done with just a workflow or process, or if you would need a process to trigger a visual flow. One of our Partners may be able to do this for you as well.
