Salesforce site not working correctly

I'm trying to get an event management site up and running but I can't seem to get the salesforce url to behave correctly. I created the new url but I may have missed a step because the link just shows errors. Was I supposed to enter something into the Active Site Home Page, Site Template, or Site Robots boxes? I'm fine with just having individual event pages instead of an event listing site separate from our organization site. We're just looking for the easiest way to show our events.

We have set up: http://newfoundlake.force.com/events

as the base URL for your events. We also fixed all your events to point to this URL as you had them set incorrectly.

Are there instructions so that I don't make this mistake in the future?

We have set the above URL in the Default Settings of the Event. Moving forward if you create new Event it will automatically consider this as your Event base URL..
