  • Event Registration Page / posting to site - receiving errors

having a very difficult time with getting events registration pages and sites connected.
Seems either no page comes up - 'not available' or I get this error NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID
which doesn't make sense to me because the SSL was validated with the common name.

      I have granted access
I have set up a custom domain - rapfevents.regionalaccessproject.org - that points to the xxxxx.siteforce.com information as provided by Salesfoce
I have connected to an SSL certificate
when I try to use that domain to post my events - I cannot get any combination of things to bring up the site.

however,if I use one of the other force.com domains and custom URL - then that will work.

        Good day!

We have upgraded your instance to the latest release and have reviewed your instance.

We have contacted Salesforce support to determine the issue you are having. With the event we use the standard secure link for the instance which is: https://<domain>.secure.force.com/xyz

Once we hear back from Salesforce we will update you as to what the issue is with your instance.

Ok - that would explain it - the event posting is not accepting a non Force.com domain - even if that domain is secured with an SSL in Salesforce.
I would think it should be able to use ANY secured domain that is listed in in Salesforce - DOMAINS.

            Good day!

We reviewed your instance and figured out what is going on.

In here you had used "Volunteers" as the site which is not set up with post-installation permissions for our Events. The site that has been configured is called "Events". For a short period we switched it back to Events so we can test and prepare the screenshots. It is now back to "Volunteers" as we don't know if you are using this for anything else and we did not want to break it.

In the Event we then copied and pasted your custom domain and path as seen below:

With the above changes the following shows up with an event which we cloned from your archive.

In Summary - if you wish to use your custom URL for the event all you have to do is to

            1. Change the "Site" field in the "Custom URL Edit" page to "Events" page you have done the post-installation for
            2. Set the Public Site URL to the new URL you have customized.

I hope this resolves your issue. Please test it and let us know.

Thank you - can you further explain how the Site name "events" affects this? and I am nto sure what you mean by Post Installation setup for EVENTS.
I am missing the link in there somehow of how they are connected - since Salesforce will not allow to actually create a SITE with those addresses.
I had also tried the main site address w/o the custom URL - i.e. rapfevents.regionalaccessproject.org - (no /events)

Ok - seems to be working - took a bit before it actually published.
                thanks!

                  Good day!

The concept of "site" and "domain" are different.

You may think of a "site" as a web page (xyz.html) - naturally this page is in Salesforce and needs to have access to various objects, e.g. Contact, Opportunity, etc. - the post installation steps are at: http://manual.clickandpledge.com/Sal..._Site_Creation

The domain is the URL address that you want to use to reach that site.

Salesforce offers a default site name: https://something.secure.force.com/siteName

Almost all of our clients use the default secure URL for their sites. Remember the URL has nothing to do with security. The security is based on the SSL key and 256 bit is 256 bit regardless of where it is issued or it resides. The secure site of Salesforce by default provides you the generic URL.

In your case you wanted to use your own custom URL which then required that you create your own SSL since ONLY you can set the SSL for your domain name. You then had to upload the SSL to Salesforce letting Salesforce respond securely to your domain request.

So Custom URL in essence is the same as https://something.secure.force.com - it is cosmetically different.

Having the domain or the standard Salesforce URL does not set up the event page- only when you set up a "site" and set the right permissions for the page then the event form will appear. In the absence of the right permissions it won't have access to the Salesforce objects.

Hope I have not confused you.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Okay - Step #7 - creating the SITE - is the step I CANNOT do - Salesforce will not allow a SITE to be created with the custom Domain - I can only create the custom URL.
the custom URL is then given a sub/name - and assigned to a SITE - which is the Force.com site.

So - what you were saying is that in Salesforce - I have to reference EVENTS - which is the 'site' created under the Force.com domain - but I can create a custom URL that then will point back to the registration page, which is actually posted on the force.com Site?

if I have to use the secured force.com site - then does that mean that the SSL for the custom domain is not being used?

I think the way it is appearing to me is that there is a cross over - that I am not understanding -

                      Good day!

You are over analyzing this too much. You are done - nothing else for you to worry about.

You don't have to create any other sites or any other domains - simply leave it all alone as you are 100% done.

All you have do is from now on in the section titled "Public Site URL" enter the following in the Salesforce Public Site URL

That is all - this was shown in the previous post as well.

You do NOT need to create any new site, any new domain, any new page, anything. Just create a new event & use the same URL for all your events.

Please note that the URL is purely the BASE URL and not the full URL. The event is based on the database parameters that are added to the end of the BASE URL.

I hope that answers the question.
