    Hi - we're getting duplicate TCs on an event registration. TC records are exactly identical except for a reference to the C&P Data on one of them. Both have the xmldata, however.

    Good day!

    These are not duplicate temporary contacts in the sense you are referring to them. Based on what you are describing the event is a named registration type event and not anonymous. In a named registration event the attendees are contacts and the registrants are contacts.

    Knowing the above, if the attendee is not in the Contact records and the same attendee is the registrant and as such not a Contact, the registrant will post to Salesforce when making a payment and the attendee becomes a Temp when registering for the event. Steps shown below:
    1. Attendee is added but not found so it goes to Temp
    2. Registrant makes the payment and not found so it goes to Temp
    The system does not know that the attendee and registrant are the same people since Alex Smith, Alexander Smith, or Alexandra Smith may all be written the same way.

    The 2 Temporary Contacts you are seeing happens when the registrant and attendee are the same people but not in the system. Both need to be settled by first settling the registrant and then selecting the registrant when settling the attendee.

      Am I right that a contact will only have ONE CHARGE against their account even though there APPEAR to be dup contacts?

        Good day!

        absolutely. Please note this is not 2 payments. The person is listed once as a Registrant (the person that paid) and if the same person is attending then he also went to temp because the person was not a contact and as such we could not associate the attendee to a contact.

        I hope that makes sense.

        A "Registration" is charged only once. A registration is made by the "Registrant" on behalf of the "Attendees". Important to note that a registrant may not be an attendee, e.g. a secretary registering a few people at the company for a conference but not attending.
