  • Two Questions - Custom Payment Types and Opportunity Names

These aren't critical questions but they are bugging us:
    1. When we set up events, and try to enter Cash;Check in the Custom Payment field (Basic Information/C&P Account) we get an error message that says: Please enter valid custom payment name. It works fine if we just enter Cash in that field. What do we need to do differently to have check as an option too?
    2. When someone signs up for an event and you then go look at Opportunities in their contact record, the Opportunity Name is showing up as a C&P Number instead of the event name as you can see below. We can go in and manually change the Opportunity Name to the event name which actually means something to us, but it would be much, much better if the right information popped in there automatically. In the example below, the top Opportunity Name should be Photographing Your Work which is the name of the event itself.

    Good day!

1: C&P Settings > Virtual Terminal: The payment methods defined there are used as the default payment methods for the Box Office. You may add any number of default custom payment methods to use there.
2: The only way the Opportunity will get the Order Number is if you are using Opportunity > Products. If products are set then the Opportunity is not the actual items since the products are related items that are actually being purchased. Are you using Opportunity > Products?

In the absence of Opportunity > Products each item name will be: <Attendee Name><Level Name>. Of course this may be customized based on the SKU in the Opportunity settings in the C&P Settings.

Please let me know if this answers your questions.

So, I've added both PayPal and Check to C&P Settings/Virtual Terminal/Payment Methods. Now, I've cloned an existing event to create a new one and I can edit the C&P Account Information in the Basic Information Section so that Cash and PayPal show up. But, every time I try to add Check, I get the same error message as before: Please enter valid custom payment name. Why won't Check work if PayPal does?

        Good day!

"Cash" is a reserved word since the backend API uses it for specific type of transactions.

We are working on changing the internal name so it can be used in the event but at this time the word "Cash" is a reserved name and can't be used.

I'm having trouble with "check" not "cash" so I assume you mean that "check" is a reserved name and can't be used? If that's the case, I did try "Bank Check" and that didn't work either. So, it must be anything with the word "check" in it then?

Sorry I meant Check not cash.

Check is what identifies ACH in the API and Salesforce looks at the payment type to determine how to post the data. Check is a reserved word.

my previous test was in error.

Sorry for the confusion- thinking of one thing and typing another.
