Problem with custom fields in event registration page

I've added two custom fields and then mapped them on my registration page. When a person tries to register, the field labels show up but there is no place to enter a value. You cannot tab or click to an area to enter data. What am I doing wrong?

It is a field VIEW permission that is not set up for that field.

If you grant us login access we can review it for you.

Hmmm, that seems weird as the two fields in question are editable on all profiles.

The two fields in question are High_School_Graduation_Year__c and High_School_Name__c in the Contacts object

Please note that this is not a profile issue. You need to make sure the site guest user has view, edit, update permissions. This is in the sites.

Looking at that now, seems right based on the settings in the post install packet. Not sure what I'm missing.
