test CC info is throwing a 5001 declined error - any idea why please?

May I know the Event you are referring to is in Test Mode? Please note the test CC works only if the Event is in Test Mode. Please grant us login access and share the Event name so that we can review it.

It was an opportunity not an event and yes this was in our partial sandbox

Ah, I see that you processed the test transaction in Virtual Terminal. Please note that we don't support test cards in VT. However, you may process a transaction using the Custom Payment type in Salesforce VT to check the data flow in your instance. Custom Payment type method will be authorized the transaction without sending to BANK. There are no fees associated, as these transactions are not sent to the bank.

Thanks; however I was testing an annual recurring opp and Other does not allow me to do that

Yes, through custom payment type, you cannot make the recurring transaction. You will need to use the real CC to test the recurring and later you may refund it.
