Use contact lookup for manual registration

For the New Registration button on C&P Event Registrants, is there an option to use a Contact lookup field? Client will be manually registered existing contacts, so making email address a required field slows down their data entry.

This idea is part of release 2.x and did not make it to the 1.x release.

I agree that the current feature, while saving time, can be more streamlined like the Virtual Terminal.
