  • Salesforce Events Problems - Incorrect Amounts, Duplicate Contact, Duplicate Donation

I got my first event up and running, but unfortunately, it has lots of errors:
    1. The first 10 to sign up get 10% off. It charged the right amount, but that discount is not reflected in the salesforce donation record.
    2. It did not recognize that the contact existed and created a new account instead.
    3. It created 2 instances of the Contact Name in the Donation for Contact Roles and for Campaign Influence. So while it knows that there is only one gift of $335, it credits the donor with a gift of $670 because it finds the name listed as donor for contact role in the donation.

Help is appreciated before more registrations come through!

    Thanks

    Good day!

Contacts are identified as exact match of: First name, Last name, and Email.

All the 3 parameters have to match exactly for a contact to be identified. If any of the 3 does not match we create a new contact.

As for contact roles! are you using Nonprofit Starter Pack? If so, the setting can cause duplicate roles and then show up multiple times. If you are using NPSP please make sure you have the correct C&P Settings:

It may be best if you request a screen sharing session with support so they can review your setting and fix any issues you may have.

The problem of the discount not showing up in both Salesforce and CnP is still there. It settles for the discount, but the CnP report shows the full price as does the donor record. Can you help?

Discounts are only reflected in the C&P Transactions, not on the Opportunity/Donation Record. For the duplication issue I would like to schedule a screen share so we can walk through the process and narrow down what is causing the duplication. To setup a time please call in or email support. 866-999-2542 email: [email protected]

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.

          Brady,
Are there any plans to update the Oppty amount to reflect the discount?

          Thanks,
          Carolyn

            Carolyn,

The problem is transaction discount will create major problem if applied to individual opportunities. Giving $100 discount to 3 items will become a math problem that cannot be reconciled in any shape or form.

If we offer item discount then we will not be able to offer transaction discount and by doing opportunity discount we remove a feature.

I hope that makes sense. I wish there was a better way to avoid the penny difference.

I guess we are using the discount plan differently since we are only applying a fixed $ discount ($50). If we have 3 people register for a class that costs $100 each and we apply the discount for each person, then the total cost should be $150. I don't understand how the math could be an issue. Maybe this is too simple of an example.
If this feature isn't going to be offered, then we'll have to manually change the oppty amount to equal the total cost of the classes minus the discount.

                Hi there -

Since this thread is almost a year old, is the theory still that the discount will cause math problems with the opportunity or has this been added as a feature? I would love to see it populate the opportunity correctly.

                Thanks,
                Kelly

                  Good day!

The current release includes the Discount as an added field to each opportunity. In case of a penny difference one of the opportunities will have the difference added to its discount.

If you wish to change the amount you need to update the opportunity amount using the discount field. See the image below:

We are adding a feature to the next release where clients may choose to have the Opportunity amount changed by the discount. For accounting purposes most want the full amount to be listed and then the discount is used as another entry possibly in different account or class.

If you wish to update you could write a trigger that updates the opportunity amount by subtracting the discount. As stated in the next release a setting will give you the option to set this automatically.

Great - any idea when that release will be made? This will help me decide how to handle it.

                    Thanks,
                    Kelly
