    Hi,

    We recently noticed that a few of our Contact records contain email addresses that are not the same as the email address they provided on their C&P transaction. The Contact with ID 0033t00003OUyBHAA1 was created on 3/23/2021 and on 7/9/2022, they completed a C&P transaction using an email address that is different than the email address that was present on their Contact record. A screenshot of our Contact Matching settings is attached. Given the current settings I would have expected that if a C&P transaction came in from someone whose last name and email did not match the last name and email of an existing Contact, a new Contact would be automatically created. Instead, when order #61065-2207092002552138426 came in, the Contact with ID 0033t00003OUyBHAA1 was found and associated with the order. A C&P Alias record was also created for the Contact on the day the transaction came in. I thought C&P Aliases were only created if a Temporary Contact had been created and then processed, which would not have happened here since we have fully-automated contact creation enabled. Is there something in our settings that is creating Aliases without temporary contacts being created and processed?

    We reviewed and found that based on your contact match settings it is expected behavior to create the Alias record.

    As per your settings, you have not selected the first name to match, and if you noticed the above record has the Last name and Email matched but the first name is different which is why it is created Alias under the main contact.

    Q: I thought C&P Aliases were only created if a Temporary Contact had been created and then processed:

    Not only in case of temporary contact, but it also creates the Alias, if Last Name, & Email matched (as per your settings) if the first name and address are different then it creates Alias under the primary contact.

      Thank you for that information! The email addresses match now because on July 12, a staff member changed the Contact's email address to match the email from the order. On the day the order came in, July 9, the Contact's email address did not match the email address that was provided on the order. Does this mean that an Alias record gets created any time the Last Name or Email Address of an order match the Last Name or Email Address of an existing Contact?

        Also, since "First Name" is not included as match field, why would an Alias be created just because the first name is different? I thought C&P would only look for matches based on the fields that are indicated in the Match Fields settings.

          Good day @Perc-BRC

          Yes, based on your match field settings, if first name and address are not matched, it will create an Alias record because you have set it to match only Last Name and Email.

          If you see the issue, please share the order number before making any edits so we can review it.

            Hi, I have a few examples where the Alias records have a different email address than the Contact record and the Contacts have not been corrected yet.
            • Contact with ID 0033t00003OUupGAAT is associated with the C&P Alias record with the ID a1V4z000005AxOAEA0.
            • Contact with ID 0033t00003OUwAvAAL is associated with the C&P Alias record with the ID a1V4z000005AzrXEAS.
            • Contact with ID 0033t00003kfcZ0AAIis associated with the C&P Alias record with the ID a1V4z000005AzmmEAC.
            In these scenarios, why would an Alias have been created when email address did not match? 1 more week of login access has been granted.

              Strange! It looks like the Alias records you are referring to have not been created by C&P because the Alias record doesn't have the C&P Order number associated with it.

                Two of the Contacts completed the form that can be found at this link https://membership.americanwhitewate...ningmembership. The Contact with ID 0033t00003OUwAvAAL does not seem to have filled out any C&P forms because neither of their Opportunities are associated with a C&P Transaction.

                  Those Alias records you are referring to are not created by C&P but from your custom controller functionality.

                  We found that you have a custom controller to create an Alias record whenever the Form is submitted and the Class name is AW_MembershipForm
