  • State name v abbreviation when Contact created from Temporary Contact

Please help us understand how State names and abbreviations are handled when a transaction comes into Salesforce for a new donor. Here's an example:

In the transaction in Connect, the billing address is Massachusetts
In Salesforce, the C&P Temporary Contact has State/Province = MA
The CnP Data has Billing State/Province = MA
When we create a new Contact from the Temporary Contact, the State is Massachusetts. The client is confused by this, since the Temporary Contact used MA.

We do not have State and Country/Territory picklists enabled in Salesforce.

I can provide access and an example if needed, but the Temporary Contact is no longer available as it has already been converted to a Contact.

    Good day @snesson

Have you “Synchronize Country and State/Province Database” under C&P Settings?

Please review above KB article and let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for sending the KB article. This is not a feature I am familiar with. A couple of questions:
      1. The article says if you change the settings, you click Save, then Delete and Reset, then Synchronize. There's a Synchronize button at the top of the settings page (visible without having done a Delete and Reset). When would I use that button without making a change to the settings?
      2. The article says "Once you click on “Synchronize Country and State/Province Database” button, then the whole data will get reset." Does "the whole data set" refer to C&P internal mapping tables only? Does any data in existing records (C&P Data, C&P Transactions, Contacts, etc.) get updated?
      Thank you.

        Good day @snesson

It won't delete the data for existing records. It only deletes the stored ISO Country and State list from your instance and upon Sync it will store the latest ISO Standard list for Country and State.

However, since you are at the latest version, you don't need to Sync or Delete the database. All you need to do is to select the radio button based upon the requirement and click on the Save button.

        Hope that helps.
