  • Custom Fields not available in C&P Designer

We no longer see Custom Fields for Tribute information available for templates in C&P Designer. They were previously available and used in templates. I updated the versions of all C&P apps a month ago and all apps are up to date. As this is with a client, I can't say exactly when the fields disappeared from the Merge fields list of the C&P Designer. It was reported to me earlier this week. I've checked over the Custom Question Mapping and all appear to be in order.
I've granted access to C&P Support for a week.
    ORG ID is 00D41000000WxBi
You can take a look at Order # 38240-2007101510242143929 to verify the fields are being updated from the FaaS form.
I've tried uploading supporting pdf page print files that don't upload because they are a litlle larger than 19.5Kb that you allow. These attachments would make it very clear that the problem is with the C&P Designer and the Merge fields that it does not display.

    Thank you,
    Jeffrey Daniels

    Good day @jaydee

We don't have any separate merge field for Tribute information in C&P Designer. All custom fields come under Custom Questions which is available as a merge field in the C&P Designer template. We reviewed and found that you have not added the custom question merge field in the following template: General Autoresponder Tribute

Please check and let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

      Hi,
I've worked with Custom Questions, Mapping and Templates for years and as far as I can recall, have never had to add anything more than the Custom Question and they were displayed as Merge Fields under Transaction. I've added an attachment from a different client and the custom fields show in the Transaction dropdown and not the Custom Field dropdown. I did nothing special that I can recall to render them . Can you be so kind as to advise me how to add the custom question merge fields to the General Autoresponder Tribute template?

      Thank you,
      Jeffrey Daniels

The order number in the question is processed from FaaS form and the tribute information is passing as custom questions, not custom fields which is the reason you are not seeing it in the designer template. You need to add a custom question merge field to the template in order to pass those fields in an autoresponder.

You can place the custom question merge field anywhere in the template:

Yes, the FaaS form and the tribute information is passing as custom questions and then the custom questions are mapped to custom fields. The fields were there under Transactions because they are mapped to Transaction in the Custom Question Map (See attached) and have disappeared from the list apparently some time ago. I have never done anything different to add the fields to each template in the C&P Designer. I will repeat my question from my last response, Can you be so kind as to advise me how to add the custom question merge fields to the General Autoresponder Tribute template?

The C&P Designer offers fields from the Transaction. Transactions are recorded in C&P Transactions, and the Designer does include custom fields from the C&P Transactions object. In your example, it looks like there may be a custom field called 'Benefit Value'.

You can map to custom fields on the Account, Contact, or Opportunity using Custom Mapping. Although you do have access in the Designer to any custom fields on the Account or the Contact, you do not have access to Opportunity fields.

Obviously, you'd like to include additional fields from the Opportunity. I will check with the team and follow up here by midday tomorrow.

Thank you, Amanda. The fields were available in the past. I have to feel that this is the result of an application update.

I discussed this with our team, and they did indeed verify that Opportunity fields have never been available to use in the Autoresponder.

As opposed to Account and Contact, there may be multiple Opportunities related to a single transaction, and those Opportunities may have different values. If you include a merge field for a transaction where someone purchased a tshirt and a calendar in the same transaction, and you add the 'item name' field to your email template, which item name is used? Do you expect two emails to be sent?

This is why the team is confident that the ability to include any field from the Opportunity has never been a feature of the Autoresponder. I can only suggest perhaps you are thinking of custom fields you mapped onto the Contact or Account objects that you included in email templates in the past.

We do include a few item-level 'collections', or in programming terms 'arrays' that can be added to the autoresponder templates, including Order Items and Custom Questions. But even then, there is no way to include one custom question that was related to the transaction without including the other.

Does that make sense as to why those fields have not been made available?

                  Hi Amanda,

Maybe there is something going on bad with communication with this problem. I have to disagree and I am not sure why you are referring to Opportunity fields. I've never indicated that was the case and have only mentioned your Transactions as the connector. The relationship between the Custom Questions from the Transaction record and Transaction Merge field in the Designer have been available in the past. I have attached some screen shots that show the relationship of the Transaction Merge fields to the Custom Question Mapping from a different client that suggest the presence of a Custom Question mapping is how they are available in the Designer Templates under the Transaction fields. The version od Click and Pledge is a year old but this existed then. That is why I am suggesting that something changed due to an upgrade.

                  Thank you,
                  Jeffrey

The middle screenshot from C&P Designer is showing merge fields from the C&P transaction object. They are custom fields. Our Custom Mapping Tool has never mapped to custom fields in the transaction object.

I reviewed the instance you referenced in your first post to see if I could find those fields and demonstrate that they were not part of the app package.
There was only one 'tribute like' field in the transaction object for 00D41000000WxBi (JSLMD). It was Notification Contact.

                    .
This field is getting automatically populated, by a process called 'GAU Allocation Assignment' that updates the value on the C&P Transaction Notification Contact field from the NPSP Notification Recipient Name (which you may have populated with Custom Mapping)

I would suggest that you review the instance where you took the screenshot with Tribute fields in Designer, assure yourself that those are custom fields on the C&P Transaction Object, and perhaps review the processes as well to see that they are populated by some custom automation.

I'm sorry Jaydee, our apps have not included the Tribute Information fields that you know you have seen in the Designer. They were custom fields added to the Transaction object, and were likely populated by a custom automation. They were available in the Designer because we allow you to have access to all the custom fields on the Transaction.

If you are still unconvinced, please join Live Support on one of the days from Monday through Thursday (someone else leads the one on Friday). You can share the screen from your customer with the older instance, and I'll be happy to help track down the automation that is populating those fields, and show they were not part of the app.

                    ~ Amanda

                      Amanda,
Yes, I will join you on Monday afternoon. Those fields are being populated by the donation form responses to Custom Questions.

                      Thank you and stay safe!
