  • On import of donation transaction, record type changed to CP Online

Hi, we are finding that when a donation transaction comes in from C&P, the record type is being changed to CP Online, even for existing contacts. We would like to keep the already assigned record type. How exactly do we make this work? (I did some reading in the forum but it;s not clear to me).

    Thanks, Jeff

    Good day @jeff829

It looks like the C&P Online record type is set to default record type. Would you please grant us login access to your SF instance so that we can review it?

Because of the above settings, the C&P Online record type is getting assigned.

Where do I locate that setting and if I change it to another record type, will that then become the default for C&P transactions into salesforce?
          Thanks!

Yes, as long as this is your only C&P account. Your unique C&P account is 17801. If you have any additional accounts, you might want to make rules for those as well.

Thanks, that helped. This brings up an issue for us now that we understand what is happening. We have donors to campaigns from a variety of roles in our org. Some are clients, some parents, some volunteers, some donors only. Each of these roles has their own record type in SF. If any of them make a donation through C&P system, it seems that their record type will be changed to whatever we have specified in the SF C&P setting?

Here is an example of how I am understanding it: If we set the C&P transaction imported record type to be "Donor," then all donations from C&P during a campaign (or in general perhaps) will be changed to "Donor." This would overwrite the SF assigned record type. So if someone with the SF record type of "Participant" make s a donation trhough C&P, and we have assigned that imported record type to be "Donor" then the record type of that participant who makes a donation is now changed to "Donor" in SF.

                  Is that how it works?

No, we do not modify existing Contact records. The record type defined here only applies if PaaS needs to create a Contact, and in that case, the new Contact record will receive that record type.

Existing Contacts get related Alias records as long as you are using semi-automatic match mode.

But even with fully automatic match mode, PaaS will not overwrite the existing Contact record type. The setting will only apply when a new Contact must be created.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I think part of the confusion is the language in the screen shot that says "New and Existing Contacts" I assumed that language applied to any rule created.

I'll take a look and bring that up for review. Thanks for pointing the language issue out.
