  • Error in processing Temporary Contacts

    Hi,

    I'm getting the error in the image below when processing a temporary contact that was created by a VT transaction. I've checked and there are no required fields on the Contact record that are missing values. In addition, I'm getting the error both when I try to merge with an existing contact (which is what I wanted to do originally) and when I create a new contact. Further, when I selected that I wanted to create a new contact, the new contact record WAS created and when I chose to merge with an existing contact, an alias WAS created. In both these cases, the temporary contact isn't being removed and the C&P transaction isn't showing up.

    I have been able to process temporary contacts successfully before, and no changes have been made to contacts in the interim.

    Looking for help.

      Hi,

      So you were correct about that field. I changed it to not be required, and my temporary contact was able to process.

      HOWEVER, this behavior does not make sense to me. The campaign associated with the VT payment already had a value in that Test field. I can see why it might cause a problem if C&P was trying to insert a campaign and was missing a required field value. But, in this case, a) there was no campaign insert and b) the existing campaign wasn't missing required field values.

      Any insight?

        You are absolutely correct. In the case of the required field, there will be an issue only in case of creating a new Campaign. In case of Value/Blank campaign have NO issue processing the temp contact.

        We had glanced at your data and found the following:

        It looks like you are entering the Campaign ID directly into the item Campaign lookup field which is NOT correct. Please note that in the lookup field, when you enter the name of the Campaign it will list the campaigns and from there you need to select a respective campaign.

        Since you have unchecked the required field, it created the new campaign with the name of ID. Please see:

          Hi,

          Okay, I had NO idea that was a lookup field. Might I suggest that you change the UI or label a little bit so that it's clearer what is a lookup field (same for "Existing Patron", which also caught me the first time)? Happy to post this suggestion/feedback in the proper place if you can direct me. There is no explanation in your help text that would clarify that it's a lookup field either (see #5): https://support.clickandpledge.com/s...etRecord=1&r=3

          Two follow up questions related to required fields:

          1) How am I supposed to manage auto-creating campaigns if there is the need for a required field? There is no way to specify a campaign field value to be used in the new campaign. Ideally campaigns won't be auto-created, but it seems like there should be a way to deal with it when it does happen that doesn't get temp contacts or other processes stuck.

          In this particular case, it wasn't a problem to simply make the campaign field not required. But, if it was an actual field in use, that wouldn't have been the case.

          2) This issue would also come up with contacts being created if there is a required field on Contacts (or same with Opportunities or Accounts). In that circumstance, do you recommend setting default values for required fields through the custom mapping in C&P settings? How does that work with Events vs. Connect?

            Sorry for the inconvenience. I have asked our team to include that information in the KB article.

            As of now, we don't have settings for the required fields for standard objects but you may accomplish that using triggers.

              Thank you for updating the documentation to explain where the lookup fields are. I also think adding some explanatory text or changing the text box format (background color or mask text, etc) in the Visualforce Page for the VT would be helpful.

              To confirm, if there are required fields on Campaign, Account, Opportunity, or Contact, the best route to assign those values is to use a trigger?
