  • Update Recurring donation - doesn't charge current month

    My colleague reported the following issue:
    When I enter new credit card info for a Recurring donation, and click "Process Payment" and then "Process Payment" on the page I'm brought to, I'm e-mailed this error:
    "Sorry, but we have encountered an error while posting the data to your Salesforce account.

    Then when I go back to the C&P Recurring Detail I see that the recurring gift is back in sync with the "Next Installment Date" as being correct, but the new credit card had not been charged for the missing/current month. As a result, I have to go into C&P Virtual Terminal and charge a one-time gift for the missing month. I can continue to do this, but it isn't ideal.     I updated George Araneo's credit card because it was declined for August. The Recurring Detail is now scheduled to charge again on 9/16/19 as it should, but I had to charge a one-time gift for August because updating the credit card did not do this.

    Is there a way around this? When updating recurring gift, why wouldn't it charge the current month? Or is that just part of the functionality and updating recurring gift credit card info has to happen in advance of the next recurring donation?

    We have fixed the above order number.

    Please note that we do not run a recurring again automatically for the past recurring installment, since you may not want to run it. We have clients that, at times, skip a month to avoid charging the client twice in a given month.

    In this case, a card that has changed will only charge again when you click on charge next.

    OR

    Go to this transaction and Manage Recurring >> Edit/Update >> change the next payment date to any future date.
