Addition of a Billing First Name Field

In the Salesforce app it would be nice to have a Billing First Name field under C&P Transactions. I have set up a workflow that sends a Thank You email every time someone makes a donation but am having a hard time finding the correct merge field to use for the email. Currently I am using the Account Holder's Name merge tag. But that displays as:

Dear First Last,

and I would like it to display as

Dear First,

Any thoughts or suggestions on what to use? Thanks.

I am a bit confused. We are saving the ContactID as part of the transaction. Knowing the ContactID you may easily find all the info about the contact.

Is that not working?
