  • Potential Temporary Contacts not producing aliases

In cases where I am given potential temporary contacts (usually with events when it creates a registrant and attendee record for the same person), it allows me to check the potential match to include when I process it, however, it does not create an alias for the second temporary contact.

So custom questions within that record are lost.

    Example:
    1. John Smith (who already exists in Salesforce) registers for a named event.
    2. As a registrant, it asks for his email. As an attendee, it asks for his shirt size.
    3. It creates two temporary contacts for John (one as a registrant and one as an attendee).
    4. In selecting either of the temporary contacts, it lists the other as a potential temporary contact and allows me to select them both to process at the same time.
    5. The already existing John Smith record is selected as the match for both temporary contacts and is processed.
    6. Only 1 alias is created (say the one associated with the registrant contact), so the T Shirt size is lost.

    Good day @cbarton

Please note that in case if Contact information is same for the Temp and the existing contact then it won't create Alias, simply the information will be merged with an existing contact based on Match Field settings under C&P Settings eg: First Name, Last Name, and Email.

Regarding the custom questions, it won't lose. You will find that information in the respective Attendee detail page in Events as well as if you create the new contact or merge with an existing contact, you may see that information in the contact page by including the "C&P Event Registered Attendees" related list to the Contact layout. Here it will list the number of attendees associated with this contact and all the attendee information.

    Hope that helps.

I'd like to re-open this issue. I am still dealing with matching temporary contacts not creating aliases. And it definitely does not merge the data from the temp contact. This is happening with new and existing contacts.

If I process the temporary contacts one at a time, it creates an alias for each one. But if I ever check the box next to a potential matching contact, it does not create the alias for that contact. I understand that all the information can still be found in the event data, but that is not convenient and doesn't give me confidence to use that feature in the future.

      Is this a bug?

        Good day @cbarton

Would you please grant us login access so that we can review it? Also, please share the order numbers for which you see no alias created.

Login access granted for 1 week.

The order I tested it with is 36816-190111071007815. While processing the "registrant" temporary contact, I checked the "attendee" temporary contact of the same person under the potential matches section. I waited 3 or 4 days to see if the alias would appear for the attendee data, but it never did. So I had to manually add the information from the event record.
