Please note that if the contact didn't exist in the Salesforce instance it will create the contact and that will be the main contact record, next time if this contact come in with different address with the same First Name, Last Name and Email (according to match mode and match fields) in that case Alias will be created under this contact.
Match Mode and Match Fields:
You will find the Alias information under the respective contact "C&P Contact Alias" related list:

One more question - What is the best practice to setup a notification for C&P Alias records that are created? Can it be done through C&P Settings or will I have to do it using either Workflow Rules or Process Builder in Salesforce?Comment

We do have notification settings for Temp Contacts but NOT for Alias. You have to use workflow to accomplish the above.
