C&P Pledges and Online Donations

If I create a pledge for a donor in Salesforce using C&P Pledge, and someone makes a donation online, does the system know to relate the two, or do we have to check pledges for those cases? And what cases may that be possible at all?

Thank you but that article does not answer my question. I am asking how to do anything. I am asking if the system will automatically recognize a donation as belonging to a pledge or if the donation only has be made from within the pledge to be related to that pledge.

We have many donors who make promises to donate...which we record as a pledge...and then go online to make their donation. It is this specific case that I am wondering about.

Yes, our system does automatically recognize a donation and attache to the respective pledge. But, for that to happen, all the condition should match, eg: Contact information and SKU (if any).
