  • Transferring transaction to different contact

We received a donation and a temporary contact was generated and processed to contact A. It was then recognized that a different contact (contact B) should have been the contact that matched the transaction. So we are trying to transfer the data from contact A to contact B.

We removed the alias that was created on contact A because it does not seem that we can reparent it to contact B.
We modified the contact field in C&P Transaction to reference contact B.
We modified the C&P Data to reference the name of contact B.
We modified the opportunity associated with the transaction to have C&P Contact as contact B.

We do not see any way to modify the autoresponder log to associate it with contact B. Is this possible?
Also, while contact B now looks reasonable, contact A still shows the opportunity on the related list? (Both contact A and contact B show the SAME opportunity on the related list.) I do not think we can delete the opportunity listed on contact A since there is only one instance of the object. We are unclear as to why it still shows on contact A's related list of opportunities.

    Can you shed some light?

    thanks

    @Brian Koblenz,

May we have access to your account so we can review what you have done?

We also need the transaction order number so we can track it.

This could be a good feature to add to the new Maintenance menu - allowing for contacts to be changed for an order.

You have been granted login access.

The contact (003d0000029J1Sg) still shows the opportunity (and
      autoresponder log).

      The transaction is: 1503262107313377518

        Good day!

Sorry for the late reply. This case was completely missed.

We had reviewed your account but missed posting it to the forum: You stated:
We removed the alias that was created on contact A because it does not seem that we can re-parent it to contact B.
We modified the contact field in C&P Transaction to reference contact B.
We modified the C&P Data to reference the name of contact B.
We modified the opportunity associated with the transaction to have C&P Contact as contact B.

We highly recommend against these actions. There are a lot of actions that take place when a transaction posts to Salesforce and doing what you have done leaves a lot of orphan records.

In the above case we never change the existing data. We simply delete all traces of the transaction then re-process the C&P Data. It is the most efficient way for handling such corruption.

If you wish we can delete this transaction for you completely and then clone and re-post the C&P Data.

As a side-note- The C&P Data may be saved again and it will trigger the entire process to run again. What we do is simply copy the C&P Data in notepad, delete all traces of the transaction and the create a new C&P Data by clicking on NEW and paste the old C&P Data in the field. Saving it will start the process again.

Again sorry that we missed updating this post.

I understand why you recommend against these actions and I was unaware that I could generate new c&p data and in effect run from scratch.

The problem with creating new c&p data is that autoresponder would run again (I suppose I need to create the new c&p data with no email address to avoid this), and that the pledge data requires non-trivial manual updating of various fields (see http://forums.clickandpledge.com/showthread.php?t=1726) so it seems whatever approach is taken, expertise is needed to clean up the data structures.

So the ideal would be if you guys could provide a mechanism to transfer a transaction to another contact. (Recall this all started because I mapped the alias to the wrong contact and I am trying to undo my error.)

In any event I still have two contacts with the same instance of an opportunity showing up for both contacts. There are no fields on the opportunity associated with the contact where I do not want to see the opportunity. Can you help me understand how the same opportunity is associated with two different contacts and how I can fix this?

          thanks
          -brian
