  • Opportunity name

I followed the directions to customize the name of the opportunity in SF/Customize Settings/Opportunity. But I'm apparently missing the trick to get that USED when a donation is made and processed. It still has a string of numbers instead of Contact Name etc. Is there a nice simple solution for this as there was for using the Tag to hook the template to the Autoresponder? Could you share it, perhaps?? ! Thanks.

    Good day!

If you are seeing the number then that means you are using Opportunity > Product which naturally makes the name of the opportunity meaningless.

If you are using Opportunity > Product, the name that is assigned to the Opportunity will be the Order Number and all products will be listed under that name.

I believe this feature was updated to behave differently in 7.1. What version are you currently using?

I was at 6.9, didn't know the new release had come out. BUT:
Opportunity settlement for manually added opportunities. This feature will initially only work with Opportunities and not Opportunity>Product. We will include Opportunity > Product in release 8.0 depending on the demand.

so it looks like it didn't make it in. Any workaround other than exporting everything and fixing them in Excel and re-importing them?

        Good day!

Not sure what you mean by work around. Are you saying that you currently are using Opportunity > Product and wish to revert back to Opportunity only?

There is no way to revert back since no opportunity has been created for new entries and products are assigned to each item. I guess the only way to do this is to delete transactions and all entries and then process the C&P Data XML data again.

Please elaborate on what you are trying to do.

I created an advanced check out page for renewing memberships for more than one member of a family. (and you helped me mightily). It seemed like the best way to set this up was by creating "products" of memberships - each "product" having several levels of membership. In fact, i found in the forums descriptions of how to do this for this purpose. So:
          Product One:
          first person membership
          individual (20)
          donor (50)
          .
          .
          .
          Product two:
          second person membership
          individual (20)
          donor (50)
          benefactor

Then a man could add his wife or kids to the same charge on the credit card as different "products". Obviously he could charge membership for himself, then back out and charge a membership for his wife as a second, different, charge on the same credit card, but using the "shopping cart" metaphor works fine.

I would love it if each product could be read in separately from that one transaction, with John and his "product(i.e.,membership)" coming in separately from Mary and her "product(membership)", each going into a separate opportunity. But when I asked questions about this at the end of a webinar, Camran said that wasn't possible. Ok. So let's just read the total from that single credit card transaction into SF as one "opportunity" . That works fine, and having the custom question say who the second donor is means I can manually enter in Mary from the receipt I receive. The only problem is to have the product total go into an opportunity which is given a name instead of a string. If it's not possible, I'll live with it.

            Good day!

How about the following solution. Of course depending on how a question is posed the answer may vary so we can assume the following:

In the checkout page we add the following questions:

Member 1: First name + Last name
Member 2: First name + Last name
Member 3: First name + Last name

Now we go into Salesforce> C&P Settings > Custom Question Mapping:

Name:	Custom_Question_Mapping.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	164.8 KB
ID:	15128

Add the questions to the "Custom Question Map Field Setting" and leave the answer blank. Choose the Object as Opportunity and possibly add a field for the member name to the opportunity record.

Using the above idea when questions have the names of the member the name will go into the opportunity field.

I can see one problem with the above scenario and I think we can add a feature to the system that will fix the shortcoming. The problem is questions come as part of the transaction and not associated with a specific opportunity. This issue results in the Opportunity to have all 3 answers since the transaction includes all 3 memberships.

One solution is for us to add SKU as a condition. We have to think about this but the scenario is interesting and one that we should have a solution for. time to think!
