  • Middle initial in Canada

Canadian charities are required by law to ask for a middle initial. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-age...d-charity.html

The Canada Revenue Agency has sanctioned charities for not including middle initials on their donation receipts.

Currently, Click & Pledge does not have a field that one can fill out for middle initial between first name and last name (where it should be) - so one has to create a new field to ask for middle initial that looks odd and out of place. A potential donor may scratch their head and have second thoughts about donating to a charity that has middle initial field in an odd spot and that is not where it should be between first and last name.

I strongly suggest you create an out of the box solution for this.

    Good day Lyda

We always try to make sure the form are set to minimal information to minimize interactions. I see your point and will add this to the request.

It should be easy to add. Let us see what we can do for you.

I figured it might be a very easy add.

How soon can you do this? We would like to launch our individual donor campaign in a week. I submitted a ticket a week ago (and haven't heard anything) and submitted another ticket today. Resorted to posting on here in the hopes of expediting the process.

This fix will help out every other Canadian charity that uses Click & Pledge.

        Good day @Lyda,

adding something like this takes testing.. I will update you after our dev meeting tomorrow morning. We have dev meetings every morning and one subject is always client requests. I will update you.

hi there, just following up and seeing how your dev meeting went. Especially given the time sensitive nature of our question (we hope to launch a Dec donation campaign and can't until this is resolved.)

              Good day Lyda

It is already done and is in testing for release in 2 weeks. We also have to release another version of Salesforce PaaS to allow the same field in the Virtual Terminal for those that enable Middle Initial in Salesforce. The Salesforce release will not be made public and will be in beta so you may install it. We will not release it since we just had a release & releasing again will not make clients happy.

Here is what it looks like. It will be live in 2 weeks.

hi there, that sounds great!! Will potential donors necessarily know what "MI" means? "Middle name" "middle initial" doesn't fit I assume?

                  Lyda

what else will First Name, MI, and Last name would mean?

it will cause breaking in the design in mobile and in our past forms we have always had MI.

                  hope that helps.

I have not seen "MI" on a form before - though, you are absolutely right, what else goes between first and last name - it's one of those things one can figure out.

I've found laying things out plainly works better than laying it out with the point of view that people will figure it out.

Just throwing out my two cents - This is how the Canadian government deals with middle initial: https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/cr...5010-r-16e.pdf and the U.S. appears to use "middle" on their passport forms: https://eforms.state.gov/Forms/ds11.PDF. The ideal would just say "initial".

                      Good day Lyda

We just released the beta version of the Salesforce app. Please see: https://forums.clickandpledge.com/fo...s-beta-release

We are aiming for releasing the Connect forms next week (November 27th) which will need this app to work with the middle initial. While we do not recommend installing beta in production, per the warning posted, the release provided is production quality and completely tested. We suggest that you let us know if you wish to install it in Salesforce and we can upgrade your instance, once Connect is made public.

Please let us know if we can be of more assistance.
                      Regards,

                          Good day Lyda

Not yet... we have not yet released the version due to issues in Salesforce when middle name option is activated in Salesforce. We are working with Salesforce support to figure out why this is happening as it seems to be a bug on their end.

I wish things were as easy as adding a single field and calling it middle name. All these systems have to work together so a single field has cascading effects downstream.

We will update you once we have resolved all issues.

hi Click & Pledge, I know you are working as quick as you can to get middle initial onto your form and ensure it connects properly with Salesforce. What do you estimate time wise for a resolution? The reason I ask is.. launching our online donation page right now (Dec) is important (it's the absolute best time of the year to ask for individual donations) and I'm concerned we're going to miss the boat.
