  • Suggest more robust error handling for failed salesforce record insertion

    When a transaction is processed through the click & pledge system, several objects are created in salesforce. some are click & pledge custom objects, along with a standard salesforce opportunity record.

    Insertion of these records can fail for a number of reasons, such as a validation rule, missing required field, or perhaps storage space full error.

    I'd like to suggest that when an error is encountered, the error log is captured, and emailed to the "Contact Email Address" set up with the click and pledge account info.

    Further, I'd request that click & pledge systems retry insertion of any failed objects at some regular interval like 4 hours or 1 day or something. Then, once the source of the error has been resolved, the missing objects will get created in salesforce.

    Good suggestion.

    Actually if you email support they can run the failed transaction for you and it will post. If you have any transactions that have failed let us know and we can post it again. Making it automated is a good idea.

    Errors: We have an update coming up next Tuesday and I try to see if we can fit this feature in. It should be easy to add. Currently our developers receive an email for any error generated in the system and our support receives notifications of any error in SF which results in a failed post. We just need to simply make it prettier and send it to the account administrator.

    Next update will be Wednesday June 22, 2011 and will have a few key features and hopefully the error reporting.

      i emailed support twice on this, but they didn't re-run the failed transaction. i've got another failed transaction today (due to an apex error on my part), what's the best way to proceed?

          Good day.

          The error reporting was included in 3.11 release.

          Please see below:In case of errors the error message appears with the C&P Data. Every transaction is recorded as the XML and the error appears below the XML data. Please see the article listed above.

                I just reprocessed the 2 transactions you listed for Organization ID: 18382

                In the next release, due out in August, we will have the re-process option for each transaction posted in the C&P Data section. This will help with the problems one may have during the development.

                Please check and see if those transactions were posted successfully.

                  No, the opportunity records don't seem to be there. Salesforce is showing no new opportunities since Jul 13. Let me know what else I can do to help.

                  Great idea on the re-process option.
