  • Swiper 1 Not Working

I purchased the six Swiper1 unit package via Amazon.com and they did not read our credit cards well. I tried the same credit cards with a PayPal Here unit and that unit read the cards with no problem. I know it was not the software, because I did finally get one swipe read and it registered into Salesforce in real time. It seems that all of my Swiper1 units are built in such a way that the credit card strip barely touches the reader it's supposed to slide across. I completed a return request via our Amazon.com account, but never got a response. Please advise.

    Neely,

All Swiper1s are tested on both Android and iOS phones and tablets before they are shipped to make sure they work. The paypal device is significantly larger and therefore does not require as much finesse when swiping the card to get it to read. You say you did get it to swipe at least once. My suggestion is practice a little more trying to recreate the motion you had on your success.

Here are some hints for getting cards to read on the Swiper1 with your phone/tablet:
a- make sure your phone/tablet is NOT muted and that the volume is maximized - NOTE - on iPhone5 (and iPad2) you may have to take it to max and then tap "Down volume" one or two times. Try max first then back down 1 or 2 and try again if it doesn't work.
b- once you tap the "Start Swiper1" button you must wait until the card-swipe animation is up and shows the card in motion before you swipe the card. This may take one or two seconds.
c- make sure the Swiper1 is fully seated. This requires that any “case” that the iPad is in frees enough area around the headset jack so that the Swiper1 device doesn’t hit it when you plug in.
d- make sure the card is oriented properly when you swipe. The magnetic stripe needs to face the read-head which is on the same side as the round raised battery cover.
e- make sure your card swipe is straight and that the speed of your swipe is consistent. I suggest that it take about 1/2 second to pull the card all the way across.

As for your Amazon order: Amazon does not show a return request for you or anyone in the NYC area in the last 30 days. You may not have completed the request the first time. If you don't get it working should try to do a return request again.

      Hi CnP Support,

It's still not working for me. Initially I was using my HTC EVO 4G LTE mobile phone and I saw a thread that said HTC phones don't work well. Then I tried it on my iPad 2. Still not working. I have swiped in every manner I can think of and I always get the time out message. It really seems to be a case of the magnetic reader not protruding enough to make contact with the strip on the credit card. It is as if I am just swiping against the plastic casing. To be sure, I do have the card in the correct position.

I am going to send another return request via Amazon.com now. Please look for it or exchange them. Perhaps I just got a bad batch. I love the Swiper1 software and that it goes directly into Salesforce, so I really want this to work.

The order # = 002-2397413-0413823 and I emailed on July 30th to try to return the items and never got a response.

I had not realized that you ordered these so long ago. We may not have instituted the policy of testing every Swiper1 on both platforms before shipping at that time.

If you would like a refund that can be done. Or we can send you replacements from our new batch of devices (which we will receive this week). If you want replacement devices, please confirm that the shipping address from the original order still applies.

If not, email your new shipping address to [email protected].

Yay! That's why I love CnP! The shipping address is the same. I would really love replacements instead of a refund. Should I return the ones I have now? If so, what address should I mail them to?

          Thanks,
          Neely

Great, thank you. I can certainly send them in and I'll include a copy of the original receipt. I know you are expecting a new Swiper1 shipment this week. When can I expect to receive the replacements?

Today I received my replacement Swiper1s and all 6 work on my iPad2. I tried them on my HTC EVO 4G LTE mobile phone but the software kept giving me this message: "Oops Swiper1 has stopped and our developers have been notified. Please try Swiper1 again." However, all went well with all 6 Swiper1s and the iPad. I was even able to wireless print a receipt, signature and all on my desktop printer. Pretty Cool!

                    Thank you!
