  • Problems with Swiper1 on LG Android phone and can I use this for taking CC outside US

When I run the C&P app on my LG phone and I swipe the test credit card, I get an error that says "oops Swiper1 stopped and our developers have been notified." How can I get this to work on my phone? And, can I use this to take donations outside the US (in Malta)?

    dgoodkin,

We have found that LG phones have issues with our app. There seem to be some non-standard additions to the audio system that prevents our Swiper1 from sending information to the app.
We have found the Motorola (aka Google) and Samsung phones work best.

As for your other question (about taking donations outside the US), you can take donations anywhere in the world. However, if your organization is only setup with a US bank then all donations will be in US-Dollars. The downside here is that you can take a donation in Malta from a local with credit card in Euros, they will still have to pay a "foreign currency" fee.

If you want to collect donations in the local currency, you will need to have a Eurozone bank account. To do this, you will need to have a separate Click & Pledge account setup that is:
a- a registered non-profit in the country within the Eurozone
b- has an official address in a Eurozone country
c- has a bank based within the Eurozone

If you do wish to add a Eurozone account then you can apply for the new account by going to:

Let me know if you need any other info.

Thank you for your reply. We can't use the swiper with our LG phone.
Would it be possible for me to swap out the swiper for one that works on the iPhone?
      Thanks!

The one you have works with iPhone 4,4S and 5. All you need to do is download the Swiper1 app from the Apple AppStore.
Please note that, for the Swiper1 to work properly with the iPhone, you will need to make sure your phone is not muted and that the volume is turned up to near-maximum. Also, after the you tap the "Start Swiper1" button you will need to wait a couple seconds for the card-swipe animation to appear. Make sure it fills the screen and the card is in motion (animated) before swiping the card.

I did everything you said above, but it doesn't recognize the test card I have. It just keeps showing the animation and eventually times out. Do you know why I can't get this to work? Thanks!

As I alluded, the usual problem is the volume. Assuming you've tried a few volume levels at "near-max". Then you should try the following:
            1. After the first failed swipe, tap the "reswipe", wait for the animation, and swipe the other direction.
            2. Slow down your swipe a bit. My experience has been about 1/2 second to pull the card all the way across.
            3. Try with a real card... again with all my other hints. Real cards have a different mag-stripe formulation which is easier to read. NOTE - you can swipe the card and the app will read the data, but if you tap "OK" on the Process screen it will return a failed-transaction message. The important thing is to test see w/ or not the Swiper1 does read the card.

Can you recommend a 3 track card reader that successfully works with the Virtual Terminal? I may go that route instead. Thanks for your help!

This magtek should work. Please remember that ONLY the C&P Virtual Terminal in Salesforce will accept card-reader input.
