  • Functionality for donor to manage their own donation

    Hello,

Am I correct in understanding that after a recurring donation is set up, there is zero functionality in C&P for a donor to modify their recurring donation information as an end user (not by sharing this information with us directly). Thank you.

Correct. We will be introducing a shopping cart in version 10, which will begin introducing capability for the patron to log in and review their information. Version 10 does not have a current eta, but it is high priority.

And obviously they can ask you to cancel their existing recurring and recreate a new one according to their preferences- which wouldn't involve you needing to ask for their CC information at all.

Thank you. In re: suggestion in second sentence, is there a way for donor cc data to be ported to new donation or would new donation be sent to them for completion via addition of cc data?

        fielding ,

There is an option in Virtual Terminal (using CONNECT or Salesforce VT) for Card on File. You can create a new donation and use the 'Card on File" to set up the new amount, or alter other features of the transaction.

The easiest way to say, alter the patron's amount for a recurring gift is to go one of the payments in Salesforce, and use the button at the top to "Process a Similar Transaction". This opens the Salesforce Virtual Terminal with the same item and settings as the original. Verify that information is correct, the recurring settings are the same, and alter the amount. Then use the Existing Patron box to tie the new transaction to the existing Contact record.

It's important that you use existing patron, and click 'Load", rather than typing the billing information in again - using this lookup is what ties the transaction to the Contact record and accesses its past payment methods.

Once the existing patron is loaded, there should b an option at the bottom for 'Card on File', and a dropdown of past payments with the last 4 digits of the credit card.

I typically recommend that customers process the new 'replacement' recurring transaction first, to ensure the card on file is available, and then cancel the existing one - there are situations where that card on file might not be available, for example - if the card expired.

Here's our article about using the Card on File in Salesforce: Donor Management with Salesforce: Process Transaction with Previous Payment Method

No additional information from the patron needed!
