  • Gateway Invalid argument error Invalid billing postal code

    We have a donor from Hong Kong who tried to donate and was declined. We got the error: Gateway Invalid argument error Invalid billing postal code. This was for order 60820-2105010436574513965.

    I'm guessing it's because no postal code was entered, but Hong Kong doesn't have postal codes. Is there a way to accept donations from Hong Kong where the address doesn't have a postal code?

    We were also wondering if you knew why this donation was marked as do not honor: 60820-2105031201374209497. It is from another international donor (from Norway). Is Do Not Honor primarily an error code from the donor's bank? Or could it be caused by the default fraud settings?

      Good day!

      "Do Not Honor" is a message from the bank and not related to the fraud setting. If you go to CONNECT and check the transaction you will see the reason for decline - if it is blocked due to fraud you will see a notice that blocked due to fraud setting.

      One problem with international purchases is the banks declining it due to previous history of the card holder. I know that we have the same issue when buying software from countries outside US. It is extremely annoying but we have to call in and tell them the purchase is OK then try it again.

        Thanks for confirming. We'll let him know to contact his bank.

        Do you have any further guidance on the donor from Hong Kong? It's possible that he entered None in the postal code field (since it appears to still show up - though not to be required when the country is Hong Kong) and that cause the gateway error. I'm not sure that I can tell that from the backend though.
