  • Test Recurrings Not Working After First Installment

    Hello,

We are having an issue where, when we test out Recurring donations through our website, it successfully processes the very first installment, but is unable to process subsequent ones (either scheduled or forced) unless we update their payment info (with the same test card info, '4111...'). The fact that we *can* fix these is nice, but does not reassure us that this will not be an issue for actual people and their actual payments. We have looked at the data and cannot see any problems with the data that's sitting there, and C&P seems to be recognizing the test card# fine, so we are not sure what the issue even is.

This is a sample one. It didn't process it's 2nd installment and when we click on 'Charge Next' in the C&P portal it doesn't work, and provides only the error: 'There was a problem processing your request.'

    Thanks,
    Nick Powell

    Good day @Unportant

That is an expected behaviour. Since the recurring has been processed with the test card namely, 4111111111111111 (4 and 15x1's), it won't process the instalments. You need to setup the recurring with real card in order to process the instalments.

TEST transactions post to an entirely different server and they never settle. A TEST transaction simply authorizes & disappears forever.. no traces of it will be left anywhere and nothing about it settles.

Hope that answers your question. Let us know if we can be of any further assisatnce.

      Hi,

Then why do subsequent recurring transactions generate fine if I create the first in Virtual Terminal in SF with a test #? Your explanation makes it sound as though test numbers fundamentally break after the initial transaction but that hasn't been our experience at all.

      Thanks,
      Nick

Would you please grant us login access and share the order number of the recurring transaction which you are referring to?

          I granted access.

Sorry, I edited out the numbers, I thought it wasn't operative any more.

            Good day @Unportant

The above transaction doesn't seems to be processed from SF VT. Would you please share the link URL of the page from where the above transaction has been processed?

We figured it out. In short your test accounts are half-baked and web sites have trouble speaking with them. You can cancel this ticket.

                Good day Unportant

Our test accounts are not half baked. We do NOT process test mode recurring. If a transaction posts as OrderMode=TEST, they are not added to the recurring batch since they will generate indefinite number of notices and emails. It also fills your account with trash records.

Your account is a test account which all transactions are in test mode. Simply do transactions and all your tests in Production mode as the entire account is a test account. Once a transaction posts in production you will have all recurring functionality. There is no point in setting up a test account into OrderMode=Test as the entire account only processes test cards.

Just make sure not to go live with that account since it will authorize all transactions and cards but there will never be a settlement - as it is a test account and nothing ever posts to a gateway.

                Hope that helps.

I appreciate the explanation and the timeliness of your responses, but there are two Test Accounts in existence (that customers are using), you guys have had trouble explaining this, and the idea that the only way we can actually test out a test recurring transaction in the test account is to set it up as ordermode=production is not exactly the most intuitive thing in the universe, so maybe this isn't an issue to be getting defensive about.

I apologize completely as I am not being defensive. I am just explaining. I am the one that explained this to you during the office hour.

You are using a type of account that is NEVER issued to a client. The account is designed for our partners that do joint software development. We do not have any clients set up to use this. I am sure there was an exception made for you to use this type of account. Our support team is unaware of this type of account and I personally explained it to you at the office hour.

It will be of great help to us if you let us know when you are done with development so we can close this account. Please let us know if we can be of more assistance during your testing and development.

The idea of closing that account has never been brought up before. We've had it the entire ~4 years we've been a C&P customer and we plan on keeping it for future development.

If there's something specific that we should do after finishing a round of testing (e.g. cancelling all test recurrings), then let me know.

I will make a note on this on the account.

Please note that standard support does not know about this type of account. This is a developer account that only the developer circle knows of and works with. When dealing with questions regarding the TEST account please use the forum and state that you are dealing with a test account and not a test mode operation.

Let us know if we can be of more assistance.
