  • Sidebar editing difficulties / Fonts

    The Connect 2 form sidebars have a couple of problems, one serious:
    1) the fonts available in the sidebar do not match the fonts available in the form proper, leading to inconsistent appearance;
    2) the tools panel plays hide-and-seek. To see this effect, create some text that is longer than the browser window is high - then attempt to click-and-drag select it and modify it. First, you can only click-and-drag from the BOTTOM of the text and expect the window to auto-scroll upwards - dragging downwards stops at the bottom of the current window. But then the tools panel will not pop up and stay - it will appear at the top of the window (only partially) and disappear when you move the mouse towards it. You have to save the form to reset the tool panel behavior, and only do click-drag on a selection wholly within the window. And even then, the changes don't reliably stay.

      I'm not sure how to elaborate more on item #2. Do this:
      1. create a large amount of text in the sidebar that extends beyond the current browser window height - so that you have to scroll the window to read it all.
      2. select a small section of text. The editor toolbox will appear at the top of the browser window (often, it will be positioned too high in the window and some tools will be cut off).
      3. next, try selecting all of the text by click-dragging. You will see two problems:
      a.) you cannot click-drag from the top down, only from the bottom-up. If you click-drag from the top down, the window will not scroll. If from the bottom-up, the window will scroll.
      b.) the editor toolbox may or may not appear at the top of the screen, and if it does, it will disappear from the screen the instant you move the cursor towards it to use the tools.
      4. If, after you have click-dragged from bottom-up to select a large amount of text, you try to select small sections of text for editing (so as to not scroll the window), the editor toolbox may not reliably appear. You have to save the form first to reset the editor.

      This is a very squirrelly behavior that severely limits the useabilty of the sidebar editor. It is possible that this may be an interaction between the editor and my browser, but my browser is standard Chrome (latest version). I'm editing on an ASUS UX-303A laptop with a 1920 x 1080 screen.

        Thank you for explaining in detail. We have tested above scenarios as you described using latest Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE browsers but unable to reproduce the issue.

        It might be the issue with your browser or maybe some conflict with the plugins you have in the Chrome browser. Would you please try another latest browser and see if you find the above issues?

          I tried IE and clearing history on Chrome. The tools panel is stable, but I can only click-drag from the bottom of the window. and now the forms editor is logging me out when it finishes saving. That's new, and it happens on BOTH IE and Chrome.
