  • Setting the date of recurring payments

    Hello,

We just rolled out our Click and Pledge recurring membership page and are beginning to determine how best to migrate our current renewing members onto this new system.

I'm trying to figure out how to set recurring date, we need to be able to choose what day of the month the recurring membership will process in order to migrate our members to the new system.

Is there a way to select which day of the month to charge a recurring member through the Click and Pledge portal or in the Salesforce Virtual Terminal?

    Thanks,
    Anna

    Good day Anna,

If by day you mean Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, then the answer is NO- we don't have such a feature allowing for setting a recurring for let's say the second Tuesday of the month.

In our system you may set the day of the month as 5th, 6th, 10th, etc.

Hope that helps with answering your question.

        Good day!

The Charge Date is the date when the transaction will take place. If you set up a recurring for a future date, the initial transaction will take place with $0 as pre-authorization and the first transaction will take place on the Charge Date.

        Example:

        Today: May 10, 2013
        Charge Date: May 15, 2013
        Recurring interval: Monthly

Today a charge will take place for $0 and on May 15 the actual recurring charge will go through. On June 15 (1 month after) the second recurring will take place and so on.

        Hope that answers your question.

To be clear, are you saying that in Virtual Terminal the "Transaction Date" field is the where I enter the charge date?

So if I enter 5/15/13 as the "Transaction Date" for a recurring transaction, the charge will occur on the 15th of every month?

            Anna,

Sorry it seems like we missed this post.

The "Charge Date" field is the date the actual charge will take place. If set for future the transaction will create a $0 transaction at the time of the transaction and will charge the full amount at the date set by "Charge Date".

If a recurring transaction is being set up then the first occurrence will take place on the date set by the "Charge Date" and all future transactions will follow the interval set. For example the "Charge Date" in the above image is set for May 16, 2013 and if the recurring is set for Monthly then the next payment will be transacted on June 16, 2013.

            Hope that makes sense.

Please let us know if we can be of more assistance.

Thanks, it looks like it's labeled "Transaction Date" in Salesforce for us. Is it safe to assume that our "Transaction Date" is equivalent to your "Charge Date"?

              Thanks!

                Anna,

Sorry .. my mistake (sort of!).

In 7.3000 the label was changed to "Charge Date" to distinguish it from "Transaction Date" which means when the transaction is happening. The "Charge Date" means when the charge will be processed.

So you are right and soon I will be right .. hopefully you know what I mean.

7.3000 is complete but we have not yet released it. It will be released by Monday.

                  Hi there,

I'm trying to set the charge date for a recurring transaction in Virtual Terminal and have run into a problem. I need to use a reference transaction to initiate the charge, but have received an error message saying "Reference transaction is not available for future date transactions".

I can see this becoming a bigger problem as we migrate our recurring members to the Click and Pledge platform. Many of our members use a Click and Pledge Advance Page for the initial recurring payment but request that their charge date be set for a specific day of the month going forward.

Is there a reason that Click and Pledge prevents recurring payment from reference transactions to be set to a specific date? Is this something that you could change?

                  Thanks,
                  Anna

                    Hi Anna,

The reason for Reference Transaction is to allow an organization to take a credit card for a future transaction which helps with no storing the credit cards locally.

A reference transaction is in there so you can make the first transaction anytime you want. What you may do is process the first transaction on the date you want the recurring to start. Since you have the reference transaction already you can use it anytime so login on the date you wish to start it and set the transaction.

I guess one can justify setting a transaction now so you don't have to login on the "future" date and run it. I can add this to the list of requested features but it will be after release 8.0 since it requires a lot of changes to our backend API.
                    Regards,

                      Hi all,

Just a vote of support for this feature of setting a transaction now so that we don't have to login on the future date the donor would like their subscription to start. We are using PaaS v 8305.

                      Thanks,

                      Charlie

                        Hi Charlie,

                        I am a bit confused.

This feature has been available in Salesforce for quite a long time and in Connect as well.

Have you checked the virtual terminal in Connect? Are you in Salesforce?
