  • American Express Problems

We have American Express enabled for our checkout pages but multiple people have have contacted us saying that they are getting an error when they try to use it.

Seems like everything is up to date on our end so I'm not sure what's going on.

    Good day!

Sorry for delay in getting back to you - we had to research your history.

Your account is set up with American Express and we are posting to AMEX correctly. Have you had more than one occasion for failure?

We reviewed your entire transaction history and found out that the one you are referring to was declined due to invalid CV2.

Unfortunately a lot of people enter the AMEX Card Verification code incorrectly since AMEX has the number on the front and it is 4 digits rather than the 3 digit code for Visa & MasterCard.

The decline was due to incorrect entry of the card verification code.

Please let us know if we can be of more assistance.

      Hello,

We again had an instance of an Amex card being denied. This time it was an employee trying to process the transaction and the message was "Error: card type not currently accepted!". Can you please let us know why this is happening and what we need to do to stop it from happening?

        Good day!

Declines are not something we control. I reviewed your account and you have many AMEX cards that are going through without any issues. Credit Cards don't let us force all cards to go through - if that was an option we had we would benefit a great deal but unfortunately their declines are final and we are only the messenger.

The message we show is simply sent to us by the gateway and may have to do with the card verification number being incorrect or the account number not typed correctly. Your account (#19376) shows AMEX cards being processed and the declines are not out of ordinary compared to your transaction count.

Error: In almost all cases occur when a card number has been entered incorrectly.

Thanks. The error message we received as "Card type not accepted" though, not a decline.

When we ran the card through the virtual terminal with the same information it worked correctly. This isn't the first time this has happened like I mentioned.

We want to make sure that this isn't happening to more people than we are aware of.

Is there something else that could be causing this error?

                    Ouch!

You are iframing one of our checkout pages. We know that IE has issues with iFrame and you may get varying results based on the browser.

We do not recommend using an iFrame with our checkout pages- they are not tested in that environment and we simply won't support the implementation. Internet Explorer has major problem with secure site iframes when the parent site is not secure.

Sorry but I can't answer your questions or try to figure out why at times you are getting that error. The page you have works perfectly fine outside the IFrame and is in use by 99% of our clients without a single issue.
                    Regards,

Is there another way to embed the form onto a page that you would recommend?

                        Good day!

No- those pages are not designed for iframe and should be used as links. In your case the main page is also not secure so certain browsers won't handle mixed mode pages gracefully.

If you wish to have a form natively in your pages then you need to develop a form using our FaaS processor. Here are a few examples - but you need a developer:

Does the form need to be hosted on a secure page? We do not have an SSL certificate for our site.

                            Good day!

Yes- it needs to be on a secure page since you are accepting credit cards.

SSL Keys may be purchased for around $10/year - check this: https://www.servertastic.com/rapidssl/

Of course you may always use our forms but do NOT iframe them. If you wish to iFrame then you need to develop the forms using our API platform as discussed before.

Hello, we are still experiencing errors processing American Express cards, even when entered directly on the form page (not via iframe). The screenshot attached is from a coworker using her own AmEx card, so we know that is was a vaild card and all the information is correct, yet we are still getting a "Error Card Type Not Accepted" message. I just double checked and American Express is listed as an accepted card. It says it was last updated 2/2/2012, don't know if that could be part of the issue.
