  • Receipt Question :: "Charge Appears As" blank

    We use the API to submit contributions. When the contributor receives the email receipt, the following alert is displayed at the top:

    Important!
    This charge will appear as "" on your credit card statement. We recommend ...
    I assume that I can set this "appears as" name somewhere, but I'm not having any luck. I spoke with John earlier via live support, and we tried to use the DynamicDescriptor element without any success. Running the API request through the XML sandbox while using the DynamicDescriptor element yields the following error:

    The element 'Transaction' in namespace 'urn:APISchema.xsd' has invalid child element 'DynamicDescriptor' in namespace 'urn:APISchema.xsd'.
    I understand that the API documentation says that the <DynamicDescriptor> element is reserved for In-house Accounts and is ignored on Merchant Accounts, but if that's the case, 1) generating an error is not "ignoring" the element, and 2) I'm still left with the question of where to provide the "Charge Appears As" information.

    Dynamic Descriptor

    we are researching the issue and will get back to you shortly.

    The proper behavior should be for the descriptor to be taken from the account setting. Merchant accounts cannot change the dynamic descriptor since it is set by the bank at the time the account is set up.

    The behavior, as you are reporting, is not expected and I will research it and if needed we will release an update by Tomorrow.

      We just updated the API to address the "undocumented feature" that you discovered. Please test it and let me know if the receipt is working.

        I'm still having customers complain that the message listed on their receipt says that

        This charge will appear as "" on your credit card statement.
        Your previous message says that this is set by the bank when the merchant account is set up. Is this still the case?

          Sorry for late reply.

          Do you have a copy of the receipt? if so please forward it to [email protected] so we can figure out what is going on.

          If you don't have the receipt please give me the account # for the client so we can review the setup.

          We have tested this and don't see any issues. It is strange that your receipts appear as blank for the descriptor.

          & for merchant accounts the dynamic descriptor will be ignored since the bank does not allow for dynamically changing the descriptor on credit cards for the merchant accounts.
