  • Recurring Donations via FaaS into Salsforce

    Hi,

I'm working on an FaaS page that I'm then connecting to Salesforce. I had a couple questions regarding recurring donations:

    1. Is a new opportunity record created at the time each payment is proccessed or all the opportunity records created upfront? I assume it's the former, but wanted to confirm.
    2. If I'm mapping custom questions in from the FaaS form, is there a way to have the answers to these questions show up on subsequent opportunity records that are in the same recurring series?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

Answers to your questions are as follows:

    1. Is a new opportunity record created at the time each payment is processed or all the opportunity records created upfront? I assume it's the former, but wanted to confirm.

REPLY: Yes opportunities are created when the C&P Data posts to Salesforce. If Opportunity > Product is NOT enabled then for each item there will be an Opportunity. If Products are set then multiple items will create ONLY one Opportunity and the items in the basket will become products and match the SKU = Product Code in Salesforce.

    2. If I'm mapping custom questions in from the FaaS form, is there a way to have the answers to these questions show up on subsequent opportunity records that are in the same recurring series?

REPLY: This can easily be done using SKU. For example one can set the SKU "Starts With" and then use the same SKU prefix for all items in the form.

      Hi Support,

      1. I'm a little confused by your response. I was asking about recurring donations and it seems you're talking about line items. Can you please confirm that if a donor submits a recurring donation, the future opportunity records in the recurring series are only created once their respective payment is processed? Based off your initial answer, the better question here may be: Does the CnP Data for a recurring donation post to Salesforce every time a payment is processed (as opposed to just once when the initial donation is processed)?

      2. I'm not sure following your response. It seems you talking about line items in this response too. What I'm asking about is if I have 3 custom questions in a FaaS form (not items, just questions) and they're mapped to Salesforce, and someone makes a recurring donation via the FaaS form, will their custom question responses show up on ALL donations in the recurring series or just the first?

      Thanks

      Kevin

        Kevin,

Sorry for the confusion. Since we have never confused anyone before this is a new experience for us

REPLY: When a recurring declines the data does not post to Salesforce. In version 8 we are having this as an option but in this release and next release (7.0) the recurring does not post when declined so no opportunities will be created.

REPLY: YES- all recurring transactions will include the original questions & answers when posted to Salesforce.

          Hi Support,

Thanks for the answers. That helps clarify things a lot. I do have a lingering question regarding item 1.

You mention that when a recurring donation is declined the data is not sent to Salesforce. I would like to confirm though that for a recurring donation that is approved, the opportunity record is created when that particular payment is processed (rather than when the initial donation was made), provided that payment is approved. Is this correct?

          Thanks,

          Kevin

            Hi Kevin,

YES- when a recurring donation authorizes an opportunity will be created for the recurring for the items in the recurring payment.

Example: A recurring is setup in January with 2 items being paid for on a monthly basis for 3 months:
            • Building fund: $20
            • Athletic fund: $50

When the initial recurring runs in January there will be 2 opportunities created:
            • Building fund: $20
            • Athletic fund: $50

February the recurring runs and 2 more opportunities will be created:
            • Building fund: $20
            • Athletic fund: $50

March the recurring runs and the transaction fails so no more opportunities will be created
April the recurring will NOT run since the March transaction had failed.

            Hope that answers the question.

I think we're still missing each other. Let me provide an example.

I make a recurring donation through CnP (no line items). I state that I want my recurring donation to happen on a monthly basis. So which of the following scenarios happens:

              Scenario 1
The recurring donation is processed and the data is sent to Salesforce for processing. Salesforce creates *multiple* opportunities record *at this point in time*, one for each installment in the recurring series. Then each subsequent payment is processed on it's scheduled date (and no more opportunity records are created in Salesforce)

              Scenario 2

The recurring donation is processed and the data is sent to Salesforce. Salesforce creates *one* opportunity for just the initial donation at this point in time. Then, when a subsequent payment is processed in the recurring series, CnP sends data to Salesforce, and another opportunity is created. This process repeats every time a subsequent payment in the recurring series is processed.

If there's still confusion, perhaps we can talk via phone.

              Thanks,

              Kevin

Whoops, I only saw your response in an email (it cut off the example you gave). According to the example, it looks like scenario 2 that I outlined is correct. Please let me know if this is not the case.

                Thanks again,

                Kevin
