How do we retreive a WID for FaaS form that we are in the process of generating, can this be an arbitrary number? Or do we have to create a checkout page in the C&P Portal to match it to? Thanks!

WID's are required and it is what you set up in the Portal. The reason for having a WID is simply to customize various facets of the receipt, fraud, and 3rd party settings.
Simply go to the Checkout pages and create a checkout page- it is best if you create a Classic Simple Page. Then go to the step for Organization Information and customize the receipt text that shows up in the receipt.
